Rajesh inherited his family’s gold and silver business, and through his hard work and expertise, he expanded into global markets and took the business to new heights. He is considered one of the biggest gold exporters in the world.
Bought the Largest Gold Refinery
Rajesh Mehta’s company acquired the world’s largest gold refinery, Valcambi, a Swiss refinery capable of processing over 2,000 tonnes of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium annually. Rajesh Mehta’s company purchased Valcambi in July 2015 and now operates refineries in both Switzerland and India.
Rajesh Exports processes over 35% of the world’s gold and is a Fortune 500 company, as well as one of the world’s largest gold refining and jewellery manufacturing firms.
Inspiration Behind the Business
Rajesh was inspired by his father in the jewellery business. After completing his studies, he joined him as his father moved their business from Gujarat to Karnataka. In 1982, Rajesh would purchase silver jewellery from Chennai and sell it in Rajkot. After finding success in the jewellery business, he started a small unit in his garage in Bengaluru to manufacture gold jewellery.
