Indian-origin Daksh Gupta has been making headlines in the United States for setting up an AI startup that helps developers understand and review their code. The 23-year-old is the co-founder and CEO of Greptile, and is known for working 6–7 days a week, 14 hours a day—a routine he also recommends for youngsters.
His views have sparked debates around work culture. In San Francisco, he openly tells candidates that he wants to build a culture where there is no guarantee of work-life balance, as his goal is to transform his startup into an established company.
Daksh’s journey began at Georgia Tech, where he and his co-founders Soohoon Choi and Vaishant Kameswaran started tracking projects to work on. In 2022, they experimented with scraping Reddit reviews to help people make smarter buying decisions, but the idea did not succeed.
His breakthrough came when he received a $100,000 check from tech billionaire Christopher Klaus. In 2023, the team began working on AI tools for software engineers under the name AI Onboard, later rebranded as Greptile. The startup went on to raise $5.3 million in seed funding.
What is the “9-9-6” Rule?
Explaining his philosophy, Daksh said: “The current vibe is no drinking, no drugs, work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week, lift heavy, run far, marry early, track sleep, eat steak and eggs.”
