The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announce bank holidays in India under the he Negotiable Instruments Act. The Central Bank takes into account regional and national holidays, as well the compulsory weekly offs - second and fourth Saturdays and All the Sundays in a month.

Mahavir Jayanti 2025 Bank Holiday: Those planning their visit to the bank on April 10 must consider rescheduling it, as the banks will remain closed today due to Mahavir Jayanti. Earlier, there was a lot of ongoing confusion regarding the closure of banks on the festival. However, the event will fall on Thursday, April 10. On the other hand, customers must note that the banks will be closed for a few days this month in several cities across the country. 

Cities Not Offering Bank Services

Today will be observed as a public holiday. Thereafter, it will be followed by the usual closure on Saturday and Sunday. According to the list released by RBI, Banks will remain closed in these key cities: New Delhi, Raipur, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Jaipur, Nagpur, and Ranchi, etc. Meanwhile, all public institutions such as schools, government offices, schools, and post offices will remain closed in these states.

Cities Offering Bank Services

Banks to offer financial services in: Gangtok, Guwahati, Andhra Pradesh, Kochi, Kohima, Panaji, PatnaTelangana, Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram. Despite the closure, people can still use net banking, ATMs, or UPI for transactions. Customers and businesses are recommended to check with their regional branches and plan transactions accordingly.
