New Delhi: In the event that the corporation does not make a genuine offer in negotiations regarding salary hikes, the union that represents the pilots at the German airline Lufthansa has announced that a two-day strike will begin on Wednesday.

After the Friday walkout by pilots, which resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of flights, it would be the second strike in a week.

The Vereinigung Cockpit union has requested that its members receive 5.5% raises this year and an inflation-beating 8.2% hike in 2023. Additionally, a new wage and holiday structure is wanted by pilots.

According to the airline, these actions would result in a 40%, or around 900 million euro, rise in employee costs over the course of two years. Instead, it has provided a one-time raise of 900 euros (USD 900), which amounts to a 5% boost for experienced pilots and an 18% increase for those just entering the field.

In Germany, strong unions have historically ensured that workers had favourable working conditions, utilising strikes to advance their claims in labour disputes.
