Rs 2000 notes Exchange Deadline: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set a deadline of September 30 for individuals to exchange their Rs 2,000 notes at banks, which means that these notes will continue to be legal tender until that date. You have the entire month of September to complete the exchange.
To exchange your Rs 2,000 notes, you should visit your nearest bank branch. Fill out a requisition slip with the necessary details and submit it along with your Rs 2,000 notes to receive the desired denomination. It’s worth noting that the specific process may vary from one bank to another. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has mentioned that banks will follow their own procedures and guidelines for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes.
There is a maximum limit set by the RBI for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes, which is Rs 20,000 at a time. This means you can exchange a maximum of 10 notes of Rs 2,000 in a single transaction. To make the exchange within the September timeframe, it’s essential to keep track of the list of bank holidays.
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s list of bank holidays, September will have 16 bank holidays nationwide, including Sundays, second Saturdays, and fourth Saturdays. Therefore, you will have only 14 working days in September to exchange your Rs 2,000 notes.
