ITR Filing: With just three days left for filing the Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the FY2024-25, the taxpayers and stakeholders are speculating whether the Finance Ministry will extend the due date. The deadline for filing ITR for the current assessment year is September 15, 2025. The latest data shows more than 5.47 crore ITRs have already been filed by September 11, 2025. While 5.14 crore were verified, 3.66 crore have already been processed.
Despite this, millions of taxpayers are yet to file their ITR amid technical glitches on the government’s e-filing portal. The Income Tax Department has earlier extended the due date for 45 days, starting July 30, 2025. There is now a growing demand among taxpayers and various stakeholders to push it further. Moreover, CAs and tax experts have reported that the AIS portal has crashed again, with OTPs failing and error messages being shown.
