The country’s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI) launched a very special scheme for women on this International Women’s Day. The new scheme of SBI is a dedicated collateral-free low-interest rate loan offering for women entrepreneurs. On the eve of the Women’s Day, SBI launched this scheme called ‘SBI Asmita’. Moreover, the bank will offer low-interest rate funding alternatives to women under this scheme.
The launch comes at a time when TransUnion CIBIL reported that women tend to show less interest in taking business loans, instead preferring to borrow for personal or consumption purposes. According to the report, only 3% of the borrowings by women were for business purposes, a major of 42% were for personal finance products like personal loans, consumer durable loans, homeownership and 38% were against gold.
CS Setty, chairperson of SBI, the new product will provide faster and easier financing to women-led micro, small and medium enterprise units through a digital and self-initiated process. The bank’s MD Vinay Tonse labelled the scheme a blend of technological innovation and social engineering.
Additionally, the SBI also introduced the “Nari Shakti” platinum debit card, powered by RuPay, a card specifically designed for women. This scheme will cater the needs of women across various segments.
