New Delhi: India’s budget deficit for the six months ending September was Rs 6.20 trillion ($74.91 billion), or 37.3% of annual expectations, according to government figures released on Monday.

The figures showed that total expenditure was Rs 18.24 trillion while net tax receipts increased to Rs 10.12 trillion.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman set the fiscal deficit target for 2022–23 commencing in April at 6.4% of GDP, down from 6.7% in the prior fiscal year, when she unveiled the annual budget in February.
