Born in 1964 to a poor village priest in Karnataka, Sathya Shankar is the third among four sons. His life jump-started in 1984. At 18 years of age, he had applied for an autorickshaw driving licence. According to reports, Shankar dropped out after class 12 due to a lack of funds. With a driving licence in hand, he purchased an autorickshaw on loan, which marked the beginning of his extraordinary journey.
Business empire worth Rs 800 crores
Today, Shankar owns a company with an annual turnover of Rs 800 crore, as per reports. During his initial days, he drove the auto on the streets of Bangalore to make a living. However, not satisfied with this lifestyle, he took the next step. After paying off the loan, he traded his auto for an ambassador car to take tourists beyond district and state lines.
Still not satisfied, he started an auto parts business named Praveen Automobile. During these times, he learned about the core concepts of business. Later, he used this experience to establish an automobile finance industry, named Praveen Capital, in 1994.
About SG Group
Sathya Shankar Bindu is now the founder of SG Group, a business based in Puttur, Dakshina Karnataka. Praveen Capital contributes Rs 240 crore to the Group’s total revenue. According to India.com, in 2001, he started with a capital of just Rs 35 lakh. Over the years, the SG group expanded into finance and sells over 55 products, from packaged drinking water to beverages and snacks.
