India’s defence exports are at a record high level. It surged from Rs 686 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 23,622 crore in 2024-25, a 34-fold increase.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated that India’s defence spending has risen 2.6 times over the past decade. The ministry said that the defence budget increased from Rs 2.53 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 6.81 lakh crore in 2025-26.

“(This) reflects India’s steadfast commitment to enhancing national security, modernising its armed forces, and bolstering military infrastructure,” said the government. The ministry also highlighted the steps taken to make India self-reliant. “Strategic reforms, private sector participation, and innovation have boosted indigenous manufacturing, making India a self-reliant, globally trusted defence exporter while strengthening national security and economic growth,” said the ministry.

Moreover, India’s defence exports are at a record high level. It surged from Rs 686 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 23,622 crore in 2024-25, which is a 34-fold increase. In 2024-25, private sector exports were Rs 15,233 crore, and DPSUs Rs 8,389 crore, with DPSU exports growing 42.85%.

The ministry further stated, “export authorisations rose by 16.92%, and exporters increased by 17.4%. India exports to around 80 countries, aiming for Rs 50,000 crore in exports by 2029, strengthening its global defence manufacturing footprint.”

Indo-Pak Tensions

The Ministry of Defence released defence spending figures at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are high. The tensions between the 2 countries had sharply increased after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. In retaliation, Indian armed forces carried out Operation Sindoor and destroy terror camps within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).

Thereafter, Pakistan’s drone entered Indian territory, which were intercepted and neutralized by India air defence system. Indian armed forces gave a befitting reply to every mischief along the border done by Pakistan.

Now the tensions between India and Pakistan ease as both countries on Saturday announced to stop all military actions and firing across their shared border immediately. As the ceasefire between India and Pakistan begins, several tough measures taken by India to maintain pressure on Pakistan remain in place, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
