Vande Metro Train: Indian Railways will start Vande Metro services in the near future on the lines of Vande Bharat trains running across the country. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced this news after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2023 in Parliament.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that Vande Metro, a mini version of Vande Bharat Express trains, will be developed for people living around big cities to travel comfortably between their workplace and hometown.

While Vande Bharat trains were not mentioned in the Finance Minister’s speech, the highlight of Vaishnav’s post-Budget press conference was the announcement of a mini version of it. The minister said, ‘To make travel easier for commuters from nearby areas of the state, the Vande Metro train, completely made in India under PM Modi’s vision, will be launched in the country soon.’

Vande Bharat Metro distinctive features:

The minister said, “We are also developing Vande Metro… Around big cities, there are big settlements from where people want to come to the big city for work and go back home on the same day. For that, we are coming up with Vande Metro, the equivalent of Vande Bharat. The design and production work will be completed this year and the production of the train will be ramped up in the next financial year.

“It will be a rapid shuttle-like experience for passengers,” Vaishnav said. The railways is already working on a sleeper version of the semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains.

Officials said that these trains will have eight coaches and will be like metro trains. The Ministry of Railways has directed the General Managers (GMs) of the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) in Lucknow to offload the rakes of the eight-car Vande Bharat trains at the earliest.
