A couple who graduated from IIT Bombay, Jitendra Mohan and Swapna Samant, have donated a whooping Rs 95 Crore ($11 million) to their alma matter. Mohan (Electrical Engineering, 1994) and Samant (Civil Engineering, 1995) donated to support IIT Bombay’s initiatives for excellence in education and innovation.
IIT Bombay said that the donation will help the institute become a leader in semiconductor technology, an area where Jitendra Mohan has achieved great success. Furthermore, the couple’s donation will also establish the Vidya Sharma Chair Professorship in Electrical Engineering, which aims to support and empower women faculty members in STEM fields.
“This initiative reflects the donors’ steadfast commitment to gender inclusivity in academia and their aspiration to foster an environment where women scientists and researchers can thrive,” added the statement of the institute. “Revitalizing the Institute’s infrastructure will offer future generations of students the same sense of belonging and camaraderie, while modernizing the facilities to meet contemporary needs will preserve its legacy of being a cherished ‘home away from home’,” read the statement.
Jitendra Mohan and Swapna Samant said they contributed to IIT Bombay because it played a significant role in shaping their lives and laying the foundation for their future success.
What Job Do This Alumni Couple Of IIT Bombay Do?
Swapna Samant graduated with a B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1995. However, her job is not much known as of now. Her husband Jitendra Mohan has a B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1994. He has also done MSEE in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University from 1994-96.
Accoding to Mohan’s LinkedIn profile, he is presently the CEO of Astera Labs in San Francisco, USA. He is working in current role from 2017. Previously, he worked for Texas Instruments for more than 5 years. At Texas Instruments, he handled the roles of Product Line Director, Clock and Timing Solutions and Product Line Director, Data Path Solutions. Mohan also worked at National Semiconductor Corporation for more than 15 years.
