The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 is out now. The Tesla-SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has retained his number one spot. Meanwhile, Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani has slipped out of the top 10 in world’s richest list. However, he holds the top spot in Asia.
According to Hurun Rich List, the world currently has 3,442 billionaires, which is a new world record. The current number of billionaires is 163 more than the last year. “For the first time in 10 years, the number of the US billionaires overtakes China, 870, up 70, compared with China’s 823, up 9,” said the Hurun report.
According to the list, India ranks third in the number of billionaires. India has 284 billionaires, which is 13 more than the last year. India is followed by the UK, Germany, and Switzerland. Number of billionaires are surging in Singapore, Russia, Canada, Turkey and Mexico.
Hurun Rich List 2025: Key Findings
- New York is the billionaire capital of the world for the second year with 129, up 10. London ranks second with 97.
- Shanghai overtook Mumbai to claim the title of Asia’s billionaire capital for the first time, with 92 billionaires. Mumbai has 90 billionaires.
- Financial services is the main source of wealth for billionaires, with one in ten making their money there. It is followed by consumer goods and healthcare.
- Hangzhou-based Liang Wenfeng, 40, of Deepseek and Sam Altman, 39, of OpenAi both made the Hurun Global Rich List for the first time with $4 billion and $1.8 billion, respectively.
- The average age of the individuals on the list is 66 years.
- There are 129 individuals on the list who are 40 years old or younger. Within this group, 75 are self-made, an increase of 14, while 54 inherited their wealth. Notably, 15 individuals on the list are under the age of 30, with the two youngest being just 20 years old.
- There are 224 self-made women, UP 6, in the list.
- A total of 115 individuals on the list are fourth-generation billionaires or more.
