New Delhi: India’s former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh turned 92 on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Singh is famously known as the ‘Accidental Prime Minister of the country. He led the country for ten years from 2004 to 2014. He is also praised for his ground breaking work during his tenure as the country’s Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996. His economic policy of ‘Liberisation, Globalisation and Privatisation’ which he undertook during his tenure as Finance Minister is perceived by many as the main reason behind where Indian economy stands today.
On the occasion of Singh turning 92 on Thursday, wishes poured in for him from all quarters. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday wishes to the Congress veteran. On his social media handle, ‘X’ PM Modi said that he wished long and healthy life for the former prime minister of the country. Following is his post on the microblogging platform:

Some Other Notable Achievements Of Manmohan Singh
India brought the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGA) Act under Singh’s leadership. This scheme has helped create millions of employment opportunities for the rural poor.
The Manmohan Singh government back then had also passed the Right to Information (RTI) Act. While his nuclear deal with the US played huge role in enhancement of the national security of the nation.
Current leader of opposition, Rahul Gandhi while extending wishes for Singh on his social media handle on ‘X’ said that Singh’s selfless service to the nation helped played a pivot role in shaping India’s future.

Under the Congress Veteran’s leadership, India’s GDP had shot up to the then all time high of 10.03% in financial year 2010-2011. Singh retired from active politics after his stint as Prime Minister of the country got over in 2014.
