58 RTO services are now available online: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has released a new notification that will make it easier for citizens to obtain transportation-related services. As many as 58 citizen-centric services, such as driving licences, conductor licences, vehicle registration, permits, and transfer of ownership, can now be obtained entirely online, eliminating the need for citizens to visit Regional Transport Offices.

On September 16, 2022, MoRTH published a notification raising 18 citizen-centric services to 58 services.

On the basis of Aadhaar authentication, 58 RTO services would be available online.

The government announced on Saturday that these services are available on a voluntary basis with the use of Aadhaar authentication.

Online services for which a citizen is needed to undertake Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis include applying for a learner’s licence, obtaining a duplicate driving licence, and renewing a driving licence without having to take a driving test.

Besides these, online services such as issuance of an International Driving Permit, change of residence in a conductor’s licence, application for transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle, and so on are included, for which a person must voluntarily undertake Aadhaar authentication.

What if a person does not have an Aadhaar number?

According to the notification, anyone who does not have an Aadhaar number can obtain such services in physical form by verifying their identity by physically submitting alternative documents to the competent authority in accordance with the CMVR 1989.
