The Dharavi Redevelopment Project of the Adani Group is one of the most coveted projects, as Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has termed it the “most transformative project.”
A few days ago, Adani expressed his vision, saying that the redevelopment project is a way to give dignity to the people who have contributed to Mumbai’s growth. Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum, is home to over 1.2 million people.
During his address at IIM Lucknow on August 7, Gautam Adani said, “Dharavi is Asia’s largest slum… Every time I fly to Mumbai, the slums below disturb my conscience, as no nation can truly rise when so many of its people live without dignity. Many people told me that Dharavi is too political, risky, and unmanageable, and that is precisely why I said we must do it. Redeveloping Dharavi is not just about laying bricks of yet another slum redevelopment program; it is about rebuilding dignity for those 1 million people who helped build Mumbai, but never benefited from it.”
He further added, “The Dharavi Social Mission is uplifting youth through skilling, healthcare, and employment programs. And over 1 million people will move from narrow lanes to a township that will feature spacious layouts, dual toilets, open spaces, schools, hospitals, transit hubs, and parks.”
Meanwhile, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has commenced construction of the Adani Logistics Park in Kalamassery, Kochi, with a groundbreaking ceremony inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The project is being developed as part of the state’s ‘Invest in Kerala’ initiative to boost infrastructure and economic growth.
