FPI Outflow: October Witnesses Rs 77,701 Crore Sell Off By Foreign Investors In Indian Equities

Foreign investors started the year with massive sell-off, with them offloading shares worth Rs 25,744 crore in January 2024. This all translates into the net investment of Rs 22,909 crore in 2024 so far.

FPI Outflow: Foreign investors have demonstrated a persistent trend of offloading stake in Indian equities throughout October 2024. This merges with the trend of foreign investors favouring alternative markets, such as China. According to the data available on NSDL website, as of October 18, net Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) outflow from the Indian equities have reached a substantial Rs 77,701 crore in the month.

The net investment by foreign investors in Indian equities in September 2024 stood at Rs 57,724 crore. Notably, India’s benchmark stock market indices Sensex and Nifty settle down positively on Friday, October 18, 2024. The 30 Sensex firms surged 218.14 points to settle at 81,224.75 points. The Nifty50 index on NSE too ended with a raise. Nifty50 rallied 104.20 points to settle down at 24,854.05 levels in Friday trade.

FPI Outflow And Inflow Trend This Year

As of October 18, the foreign investors offloaded the shares worth Rs 77,701 crore from Indian equities in October. However, they were the net buyers from June to September consecutively. FPI inflow in Indian equity in September stood at Rs 57,724 crore. Foreign investors invested Rs 7,320 crore in August, Rs 32,365 crore in July, Rs 26,565 crore in June in Indian equity market.

Foreign investors were the net sellers in the month of May 2024 as they offloaded shares worth Rs 25,586 crore in the month from Indian equities. April 2024 also witnessed the FPI outflow, as foreign investors offloaded the shares worth Rs 8,671 crore. Foreign investors were the net buyers in the month of March and February this year. FPI inflow was Rs 35,098 crore in March and Rs 1,539 crore in February.
