New Delhi: Taiwanese firm Foxconn, a large iPhone assembler for Apple, is aiming to establish a second iPhone manufacturing plant in Karnataka which would contribute to generating 14,000 jobs.
The plan was proposed during a high-level meeting on Monday between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and representatives from the Foxconn Industrial Internet(Fii), a subsidiary of Foxconn (formerly known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd).
Karnataka’s Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil on Monday stated that Fii, which is a subdivision of Foxconn, is planning to invest Rs 8,800 crore to set up a manufacturing plant at Devanahalli Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR).
As per the State Government release, the Foxconn subsidiary’s new supplementary plant would require nearly 100 acres of land. The unit is expected to be set up in Tumakuru, where the representatives of Fii would be taken to examine the land at the Japan Industrial Township near the district headquarters town.
“The delegates of the company will be taken to Tumakuru to examine the available land at Japan Industrial Township in Tumakuru today itself,” the release added.
Moreover, Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil tweeted, “The state is ready to provide full support, offering land required to set up the manufacturing unit, in the 100 acres of land available in the Japanese Industrial Park near (the district headquarters town of) Tumakuru.”
Previously on Thursday, karnataka officials hinted that the handover process for the mobile devices manufacturing unit at Devanahalli ITIR was in its “final stages.”
