Aadhaar-Linked Birth Registration: Nagaland has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first state in the northeastern region to introduce Aadhaar linked birth registration (ALBR). This initiative, which aims to streamline birth registration and integrate it with Aadhaar enrollment for children aged 0 to 5, is expected to facilitate children’s access to various social welfare programs designed for their well-being.
Nagaland government Commissioner T. Mhabemo Yanthan emphasized the crucial role of ALBR in registering newborns and ensuring the inclusion of children in the 0 to 5 age group. He called for the cooperation of state government officials to ensure the successful implementation of ALBR across all districts of Nagaland.
To make this service accessible to residents across districts, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, which serves as the Registrar for Birth and Death in the state, has partnered with the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) as a Registrar cum Enrolment Agency for Child Enrolment through the ALBR process.
Col. Abhishek Koushik, the Director of UIDAI, commended the Nagaland government for leading the northeastern region in implementing ALBR. He praised the consistent efforts of the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland, in delivering Aadhaar-linked services to the state’s residents.
UIDAI has actively supported states through workshops, door-to-door enrolments, and outreach efforts in remote areas, assisting them in harnessing the benefits of the Aadhaar ecosystem. The UIDAI’s Regional Office in Guwahati has worked closely with the Office of the Commissioner Nagaland, which serves as the Nodal Department for Aadhaar-related activities in the state.
