Billionaire Elon Musk’s Starlink company submitted all necessary documents to get the approval for satellite internet services in India. It is expected that the Indian space regulator will soon give its approval to the company, According to The Economic Times on February 21.
Eying clearance, Starlink has submitted essential documents and they will be reviewed by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe). The report cited that a committee of Home Ministry officials and the Space Department would take part in the review.
Elon Musk’s company will need a license from the Department of Telecommunications and access to the spectrum. The company was asking for spectrum allocation on an administrative basis to which Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani and Airtel’s Sunil Mittal had opposed and demanded an auction for spectrum allocation. Later, the government clarified that the spectrum allocation will be done administratively.
Starlink already started its services in Bhutan. The company announced its availability on February 11, 2025.
Recently, Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to Washington DC. Musk also planned Tesla’s operations in India by April. Tesla has given advertisements for recruitment of staff and employees for its operations.
It is reportedly said that the company has chosen Delhi and Mumbai to start its business in India.
