Widening its investigations into the alleged loan fraud case against Anil Ambani companies, the Enforcement Director on Monday summoned several top executives of his company for questioning under the PMLA.
Two of the closest aides of Anil Ambani, Amitabh Jhunjhunwala and Sateesh Seth are among those summoned, as they were under the scanner ever since the searches that were carried out various premises of the Anil Ambani companies. The suspicion of ED is the alleged involvement of these and other officials in helping divert funds and defraud banks.
The investigating agency is also said to be suspecting that some banks turned blind eye to some loans turning NPAs in return for kickbacks. The ED has already written to 39 banks, and is said to have questioned the banks as to why they did not report the loans as suspicious or alert the authorities.
The fraud case centres around unpaid loans amounting to nearly Rs 17,000 crore, which were taken by various firms linked to Anil Ambani. Officials are now trying to trace where the money went and who all were involved in diverting it.
Anil Ambani is expected to appear before the ED on Tuesday for further questioning.
