Fine on Indigo: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Indigo Airline for lapses in documentation related to training and engineering processes.
DGCA, during the special audit, noticed certain systemic deficiencies in the documents relating to the operational/training procedures and engineering processes of IndiGo Airlines.
What’s the matter?
According to DGCA, Indigo Airlines experienced four tail strike incidents on A321 aircraft within a span of six months in the year 2023. It is noteworthy that a tail strike occurs when the rear part of the airplane hits or comes in contact with the runway during take-off or landing. At the time of the special audit, DGCA found lapses in the airline.
The airline’s regulator has not only imposed a fine but also suspended the license of the pilot and co-pilot of Indigo’s Bangalore to Ahmedabad flight. It is the same aircraft in which the tail strike was experienced.
The DGCA informed that the crew made a landing outside the established norms, following which the pilot-in-command’s license was suspended for three months and the co-pilot’s license for one month.
