Cognizant: India’s Highest Paid CEO Offers 2.52 LPA Salary To Freshers; Stirs Social Media Debate

The controversy has sparked a debate about wage disparities and the stagnation of entry-level salaries over the years.

American IT services and consulting major Cognizant is at the receiving end of a lot of backlash on social media after it announced an off-campus hiring drive for the 2024 batch with a salary of Rs 2.52 LPA, which works out to approximately Rs 21,000 per month before deductions.

The same has been a hot topic of controversy among netizens across the globe. A job post announcing the drive read, ‘Cognizant has announced an exciting off-campus mass hiring drive and invites applications from the 2024 batch. Application deadline August 14. Package – INR 2.52 LPA.

Soon enough, critics took to social media to express their anger. ‘Cognizant offers 2.25 LPA to freshers while their CEO’s salary is 186 crores, the highest-paid CEO in India. They offered the same 2.25 lakhs when I was a fresher two decades ago. Why no minimum wage criterion in all sectors?’ Swastika Yadav wrote in a post on X.

The responses to this were strongly critical and comic. One user commented sarcastically, ‘2.25 LPA is too much; they should make it 1.8 LPA. What would a graduate do with such a huge package?’ Another person chimed in with, ‘2.52 LPA is so generous. What will they do with that much money? My driver makes more than that, working just 4 days a week. Lol.’

Isse jyada paisa to momo wale ke helper me hai,’ wrote one. That much money is available to even a helper of the momo vendor, this screams about the low salary as compared to other jobs.
