New Delhi: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, on June 10, declared the government’s plan on enforcing regulations on technologies such as artificial intelligence, after noticing the potential harm they can cause to users.
The minister stated that there will be no potential fear of job loss from the development of AI, as there is no fear of job loss for now, however, there is a huge probability of happening this after 5-7 years.
“Our approach towards AI or any regulation is that we will regulate it through the prism of user harm. This is a new philosophy, which has started since 2014 that we will protect digital nagriks. We will not allow platforms harming digital nagriks. If they operate here, then they will mitigate user harm,” Chandrasekhar said.
What did the Minister say?
The minister said such things at an event, held to share nine years of achievement of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He laid emphasis on the fact that the visit of OpenAI founder and CEO Sam Altman to India remarkably indicates the potential of India in the realm of emerging technologies.
Chandrasekhar stated that under the Congress-led UPA regime, section 79 was included under the IT Act, which in turn gave free exposure to big tech platforms, while the current regime laid out rules to make big tech companies accountable.
