New Delhi: The government’s objective of enhancing healthcare accessibility and affordability involves the expansion of the Jan Aushadhi Kendra network to 10,000 outlets across the country by March 2024. This endeavour serves the dual purpose of meeting public healthcare needs and fostering employment opportunities.
The scheme offers financial aid of up to Rs 50,000 to individuals belonging to SC, ST, and Divyang categories who wish to establish their own Jan Aushadhi Kendras. These retail centres offer generic medications at reduced prices. Aspiring entrepreneurs must possess a B-Pharma or D-Pharma degree, supported by relevant documentation during the application phase.
This initiative’s importance lies in providing economical pharmaceuticals to the masses while also encouraging entrepreneurship. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra Yojana exemplifies the government’s dedication to healthcare reform and economic advancement, creating a mutually beneficial situation for aspiring entrepreneurs and the general public.
Availing the benefit
The process is facilitated by obtaining a ‘Retail Drug Sales’ license. The eligibility criteria for applicants are flexible, including unemployed pharmacists, doctors, registered medical practitioners, trusts, NGOs, private hospitals, and nominated state government agencies. Aspiring entrepreneurs need to hold a B-Pharma or D-Pharma degree, substantiated by relevant proof during the application process.
One of the key attractions of opening a Jan Aushadhi Kendra is the potential for earnings. Operators can enjoy a commission of up to 20% on the sales of medicines, supplemented by an additional monthly incentive of 15%.
Beyond this, the government extends financial assistance ranging from approximately Rs 2.5 lakh to 2.75 lahks, catering to furniture and other essential setup requirements. Moreover, the scheme offers financial aid for the procurement of equipment such as computers and printers for efficient billing processes.
The significance of this initiative lies not only in providing cost-effective medicines to the masses but also in promoting entrepreneurship. By encouraging individuals to open Jan Aushadhi Kendras, the government is fostering economic growth while addressing a crucial aspect of healthcare accessibility.
This business opportunity aligns with the government’s vision of a self-reliant India and offers a practical means for individuals to contribute positively to society. As the scheme gains traction, it is expected to create a ripple effect, generating jobs and empowering local communities.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra Yojana aims at fulfilling the government’s commitment to healthcare reform and economic development, creating a win-win scenario for both aspiring entrepreneurs and the public.
