New Delhi: Banks will remain closed in many cities across the country on 31 August 2022 on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. According to the holiday calendar website of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed in 9 major cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai. However, banks will remain open in major cities like Delhi and Kolkata.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day festival that begins on Chaturthi Tithi and ends on Anant Chaturdashi. It is also known as Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha), Varsiddhi Vinayaka Vrat or Vinayaka Chaturthi in some parts of the world. In some cities, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on 1st September. Banks will remain closed on September 1 in Panaji.

Bank Holiday on Ganesh Chaturthi
August 31: Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha) / Ganesh Chaturthi / Varsiddhi Vinayaka Vrat / Vinayaka Chaturthi
Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur and Panaji.
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar, banks were closed for a total of 12 days in August 2022, apart from six weekend holidays. There were a total of 18 bank holidays in August.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has classified holidays into three categories: holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and real-time gross settlement, and bank closings.
Meanwhile, NSE and BSE stock exchanges will remain closed tomorrow, August 31, 2022, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.
