Bank Holidays in January 2026: More than 10 days? Check dates and city-wise closures

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the bank holiday calendar for January 2026. Banks across the country, including public and private sectors, will remain closed on multiple national and state holidays, as well as weekends.

The year 2026 is almost here, and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the Bank Holiday Calendar for the year. In January, there will be 16 bank holidays, but these will differ across states, so banks will not be closed on all 16 days at the same time. According to TV9, six of these holidays will fall on the second and fourth Saturdays, four on Sundays, and the remaining ten will be either National or State-level holidays. Customers are advised to check the specific holiday list of their city’s banks before planning any banking activities in January.

In January 2026, banks across the country, including both public and private sectors, will remain closed on several occasions and festivals, such as New Year, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, Bihu, Makar Sankranti, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, and Republic Day. In some states, banks may stay closed for two to three consecutive days during these festivals. Additionally, banks will be closed nationwide on the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as on all four Sundays of the month. “All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays,” reads the official website.

According to the RBI calendar, bank branches will be closed on the following holidays in January 2026:
