Is Today A Bank Holiday?: Ganesh Visarjan is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across Maharashtra and several other parts of India on Saturday, September 6. If you’re wondering about bank operations today, here’s the answer – banks remain open nationwide, though holidays may vary from state to state.
In Sikkim’s capital, Gangtok, banks will remain closed on Saturday, September 6, 2025, for Id-e-Milad (Milad-Un-Nabi)/Indrajatra, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s state-wise holiday calendar. Customers are advised to check the complete list of bank holidays before visiting.
Ganesh Visarjan, the immersion ritual performed on Anant Chaturdashi, falls on September 6 this year, which also happens to be the first Saturday of the month. The celebrations will take place in several regions, especially Maharashtra.
Bank holidays are listed in the RBI’s annual holiday calendar under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which governs cheques and promissory notes. This means such transactions cannot be carried out on those days.

Meanwhile, the Indrajatra festival honours Lord Indra, the God of Rain. It marks the end of the harvest season and is mainly celebrated in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley, with smaller celebrations in Sikkim.
