Bank holiday today: As Hindus observe Maha Saptami – the seventh day of the Durga Puja festival – in the Hindu month of Ashwin, the Reserve Bank of India has mandated a bank holiday in Agartala, Kolkata and Guwahati on September 29, 2025.
Next week, all seven days will be bank holidays in some parts of the country as people celebrate festivals including Navratri and Durga Puja, and observe Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, along with weekend leaves.
Banks in India, including the State Bank of India (SBI), are closed on central bank-mandated holidays. This also covers the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, along with all Sundays.

September 29 (Monday): RBI holiday in Agartala, Kolkata, Guwahati for Maha Saptami (7th day of Durga Puja).
September 30 (Tuesday): Banks closed in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi for Maha Ashtami / Navratri.
October 1 (Wednesday): Banks closed in multiple cities (Agartala, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram) for Maha Navami / Dussehra / Durga Puja.
October 2 (Thursday): Pan-India bank holiday for Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra / Durga Puja / Janmotsav of Sri Sri Sankardeva.
October 3 (Friday): Banks closed in Gangtok for Durga Puja.
October 4 (Saturday): Banks closed in Gangtok for Durga Puja.
October 5 (Sunday): Pan-India Sunday holiday.
