8th Pay Commission: The central government recently announced the formation of the new Pay Commission. Since then, the debate of whether its constitution will be announced in the upcoming budget or not is doing rounds on the social media. Several media reports claim that the government may come up with a major announcement about the new Pay Commission in the budget.
In an exclusive interview with News24, former Finance Secretary of India, Subhash Chandra Garg shared his views on whether the constitution of 8th Pay Commission will be announced in the budget or not.
8th Pay Commission: What Ex-Finance Secretary Said?
Garg said that it is unlikely that the government comes up with a major announcement about the new Pay Commission in the budget. Garg said, “You don’t announce Pay Commission constitution in the budget.” “The Pay Commission will be set-up, that is already announced by the Minister. Though there is no official communication about its constitution,” he added.

Furthermore, Garg said, “I think the next step will be, may be one or two months down the line that the government will formally notify (the new Pay Commission).” “They have to select a lot of people, take approvals, draft the terms of reference. All these things are not the part of the Budget,” he concluded.

With this, Sitharaman will become the first Finance Minister to present the Union Budget for the 8th consecutive time.
