8th Pay Commission: Salaries Could Rise By 186% – What Past Pay Commissions Offered?

As a result, expectations are rising for the formation of a new Pay Commission to succeed the current one. The government is likely to announce the formation of the 8th Pay Commission in the upcoming Union Budget of 2025-26, according to several media reports.

8th Pay Commission: Salaries Could Soar By 186%

Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary of the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery, has recently said that the forthcoming 8th Pay Commission may consider introducing a fitment factor of “at least 2.86”. The government’s approval of this fitment factor will increase the minimum salary by 186% to Rs 51,480 from the current Rs 18,000.

Additionally, the government might increase the minimum pension for central government employees from Rs 9,000 to Rs 25,740, using the same fitment factor. Here’s a look at the minimum salary of central government employees under previous pay commissions.

What Past Few Pay Commissions Offered?

7th Pay Commission: The minimum basic pay of central government employees is currently set at Rs 18,000 per month, under the 7th Pay Commission. Furthermore, this marks a significant 157% increase from the minimum pay of Rs 7,000 stipulated by the 6th Pay Commission.

6th Pay Commission: The 6th Central Pay Commission had hiked the minimum entry-level pay for government employees to Rs 7,000.

5th Pay Commission: Under this Pay Commission, the minimum entry-level salary for government employees was Rs 2,550.

4th Pay Commission: Under this Pay Commission, the minimum entry-level salary for government employees was Rs 750.

3rd Pay Commission: Under this Pay Commission, the minimum entry-level salary for government employees was Rs 185.

2nd Pay Commission: Under this Pay Commission, the minimum entry-level salary for government employees was Rs 80.

First Pay Commission: Under this Pay Commission, the minimum entry-level salary for government employees was Rs 55.
