Several Trade Unions and the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh requested the central government to form the 8th Pay Commission without any further delay. They outlined their concern in the pre-Budget meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Central government employees are eagerly waiting for the government to implement the 8th Pay Commission to address the concerns surrounding salary hikes and other perks.
Over 1 crore central government employees and pensioners are facing disappointment after the Finance Ministry clarified in the Rajya Sabha that there are no immediate plans to establish a new Central Pay Commission. This announcement comes as a letdown, especially since the central government employees and pensioners were hopeful that the new Pay Commission would be announced during the Budget in February 2025.
8th Pay Commission: 186% Salary Hike
Secretary of the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), Shiv Gopal Mishra has sparked the speculations when he recently mentioned that the next Pay Commission shall propose a fitment factor of “at least 2.86”. This could potentially lead to a significant 186% salary hike for the central government employees.
If the recommended fitment factor gets the OK from the central government, the minimum basic pay could jump from mere Rs 18,000 to a staggering Rs 51,480. That’s a substantial 186% hike.
But that’s not all – pensioners will also get a boost in pension. At this fitment factor, their pensions could rise from Rs 9,000 to Rs 25,740, providing a much-needed financial cushion to them.
Timeline
Central government employees were initially expecting that the government would announce the 8th Central Pay Commission in the 2025 Budget. However, the recent statement from the Finance Ministry has left them disappointed and uncertain. As of now, there is no official timeline for the formation of the new Central Pay Commission, leaving employees in a state of limbo.
