7th Pay Commission update: The Department of Health and Family Welfare (DHFW) has changed the rules for ward entitlement in private hospitals accredited by the CGHS. According to the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the ward entitlement would now be in accordance with the basic pay drawn by the Central Government officer.

According to the department’s most recent decision, Central Government officers with a basic pay of more than Rs 50,500 will be eligible for private wards in private hospitals that are CGHS-empanelled. Employees earning up to Rs 36,500 per month as basic pay would have access to general wards in private hospitals. Employees earning between Rs 36,501 and Rs 50,500 will also be eligible for semi-private wards.

“In partial modification to this Ministry’s O.M. of even number dated 9th January 2017, the undersigned is directed to say that entitlement of wards in private hospitals empanelled under CGHS as contained in Para 3(B8) of the O.M. ibid stands revised,” the DHFW said in an Office Memorandum dated 28th October 2022.

With effect from October 28, 2022, the ward entitlement would be subject to the following limits:

  • Up to Rs 36,500 – General
  • Rs 36,501 to Rs 50,500 – Semi-Private
  • Rs 50,500 and above – Private
