New Delhi: Volkswagen has updated its third generation Tuareg SUV after five years. The new Tuareg gets exterior design upgrades as well as a new interior with new digital functionality in the Elegance and R-Line trims. Along with this, the company will also introduce a new entry level model in Germany.

What has changed

The exterior of the new Volkswagen Tuareg SUV has been given a new look front grille. The Elegance trim model gets a chrome finish, while the R-Line gets black finish support. The air ducts at the bottom of the front bumper are also bigger than before. New headlights have also been supported in this. Volkswagen’s IQ Light HD matrix system has 19,216 micro-LEDs per unit. The rear profile gets a new light bar on the tailgate as well as new tail-light graphics. Adjustment of HD LED light has also been given in its people. It gets 19 and 20 inch wheels on the Coventry and Braga models respectively while 21 inch wheels for the Napoli and Leeds.

Interior update

The facelifted Tuareg SUV now gets the InnoVision cockpit as standard. It has a 12-inch instrument cluster and a 15-inch infotainment display. Along with this, software upgrade, satellite navigation, voice control, advanced HD map data and wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto have been supported. Other changes include the center console and the USB-C port near the switchgear. It has been upgraded from 15W to 45W for fast recharging. There is also a new ambient lighting effect.

Powertrain

Volkswagen has given a choice of five drivetrains in the new Tuareg, all of which have an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox with a 4Motion four-wheel drive system. Which includes a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine with 335hp power, two turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 engines with 227hp and 282hp power. The company has also updated its existing two plug-in hybrid powertrains, which get an electric motor along with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, making 375hp and 455hp.

Will be launched in India?

The company sold the first-generation Tuareg in India. But its third generation model was not launched in India, and there is no hope of its updated model coming to India. The car competes with the Audi Q7, which gets a 3.0L BS6 petrol engine.
