New Delhi: Tata Motors has planned a range of new cars across segments to hit the roads in the next 2-3 years. While its best-selling Tiago hatchback and Nexon subcompact SUV will enter their new generation, the Curvv and Sierra SUVs will come with ICE and EV powertrains sometime in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
The automaker will also bring an electric iteration of the Harrier SUV next year. Here are some key details of the above mentioned upcoming new Tata cars.
TATA CURVV
The Tata Curvv was unveiled in its concept avatar at this year’s Auto Expo in January. This model is the basis of the brand’s Generation 2 EV architecture, which is essentially a heavily modified version of the existing platforms.
The architecture supports multiple body styles and powertrains along with larger battery placements. The Curvv SUV will be available with both petrol and electric powertrains. Its petrol version is likely to get Tata’s new 1.2-litre turbo engine which is good for 125bhp and 225Nm. The production-ready Tata Curvv will take on the Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta.
TATA HARRIER EV
The Tata Harrier electric SUV will be the second major production model designed on the Tata Gen 2 platform. The automaker unveiled the model at the Auto Expo 2023. In terms of design and styling, the concept shares strong similarities with its ICE-powered version.
What sets it apart is the new shrouded grille, split headlamps with newly designed LED light bars, blacked-out housing, modified bumper and angular creases. The Harrier EV has “EV” badging on the fenders along with larger wheels and recessed door handles. Inside, the electric SUV can have autonomous assistants, full connectivity and advanced technology.
TATA SIERRA
The Tata Sierra is certainly one of the most anticipated new Tata cars in India. We saw it just before the production version at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023. The SUV measures around 4.3 meters in length and is based on the Gen 2 platform. Similar to the Curvv, the Sierra will be offered with petrol and electric powertrains.
The petrol model could have Tata’s new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engine under the hood. Transmission options are likely to include a manual and a dual-clutch automatic unit. If reports are to be believed, the Tata Sierra EV could have a 60kWh battery and offer a range of around 500 km. More details here…
NEW GENERATION TATA NEXON & TIAGO
The next generation Tata Nexon and Tiago are expected to go on sale in the next few years. However, there is no official information about the upcoming models. Reports suggest that the all-new Nexon might share some of its design cues with the Tata Curvv concept.
On the features front, the SUV may get a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity and voice control and a new clustered instrument panel. The next-gen Nexon could be powered by a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is good enough for 125bhp and 225Nm.
