New Delhi: Hero MotoCorp is preparing to launch several premium models in the Indian market. The company plans to introduce four new models in the next 3-4 years to enter the premium motorcycle segment. The upcoming Hero premium bikes will be divided into two different sub-segments: Core Premium and Upper Premium. Currently, the company is working on three platforms, which include a 210cc liquid-cooled engine for the new Karizma XMR, a 420cc liquid-cooled engine, and a 440cc oil-cooled engine that will power the Harley-Davidson X440.
The New 440cc Bike
In an interview with an online media publication, Hero MotoCorp Chairman Pawan Munjal stated that Harley-Davidson would play a significant role in the company’s development in the premium motorcycle segment. He mentioned that if the first model of their joint venture, the Harley-Davidson X440, receives a good response from customers, the company will expand this partnership to the global market. He also stated that Hero MotoCorp would launch a new premium bike based on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X440 in early 2024.
Hero Xtreme 440
According to some reports, the upcoming premium bike from Hero could be named Xtreme 440R. Its powertrain could be similar to the Harley-Davidson X440, featuring a 440cc single-cylinder, 2-valve, oil-cooled engine. This engine could generate 27bhp of power and 38Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The new Xtreme 440R is expected to share several design elements and features with the Harley-Davidson X440.
Next Launch from Hero MotoCorp
Hero MotoCorp is preparing to launch the fully-faired Karizma XMR 210 in the coming months. The new bike will feature a sharp front end, long and lifted handlebars, and a smooth tail profile. It will be equipped with a 210cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine capable of generating 25bhp of power and 30Nm of torque.
Competition with Harley 440
The competition for the Harley 440 would come from the KTM 390 Duke, which features a 373.27cc BS6 engine producing 42.9 bhp of power and 37 Nm of torque.
