With the burgeoning electric vehicle market in India, car manufacturers are stepping up their game as a range of new EVs slated for release in 2024. Among the upcoming electric cars in India, Maruti Suzuki eVX has been creating a lot of buzz being a maiden EV marking the automaker’s entry into the e-arena. Other top automakers to launch new electric cars this year include Tata Motors, Kia, and Hyundai. Let’s check out the list of most anticipated upcoming electric cars in India in 2024:

Maruti Suzuki eVX
The launch of eVX will mark Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the electric car segment. The company took the wraps off the eVX at the 2023 Auto Expo. Later, the automaker officially announced that the eVX electric SUV will be built at its Gujarat facility in Hansalpur. Now, it is expected to be launched in December 2024.
The eVX will come with a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and will offer a range of around 550 kilometres on a single charge. The EV will take on the likes of MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona. It is expected to come with a starting price of Rs 20 lakh, which can go up to Rs 25 lakh.
Tata Harrier EV
In 2023, Tata Motors announced that it would introduce an electric version of its flagship SUV, the Harrier. The Harrier EV was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. With both V2L (Vehicle to Load) and V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) charging capabilities, the Harrier EV will be based on the Gen 2 EV platform.

The Harrier EV, which has often been spotted undergoing road tests, is expected to be launched in June 2024. As per reports, the EV will have a battery capacity of 50 kWh and will offer a range of 400 kilometres. Expected to be priced between Rs 22 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, the Harrier EV will be pitted against the likes of Hyundai Kona Electric, Maruti Suzuki eVX and MG ZS EV.
Tata Curvv EV
Tata Motors will mark its third entry into the electric car segment with the Curvv EV, which is expected to be launched in July 2024. The car will be based on Tata Motor’s X1 platform. Reports suggest that the Curvv electric SUV will have a 56.5kWh battery, 400 to 500 kilometres range on a single charge and a charging time of 4 hours. Expected to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, the Curvv electric will compete against the likes of Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 400 EV and Honda Elevate EV.
Kia EV9
The Korean automaker is expected to introduce the three-row electric SUV, the Kia EV9, in India in June 2024. Based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), it is said to be offering a range of up to 450 kilometres on a single charge.
On a global scale, the EV9 packs a 150 kW electric motor, which helps it do a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 9.4 seconds. Expected to cost between Rs 90 lakh – Rs 1.2 crore, the Kia EV9 will lock horns with the likes of Volvo XC90, Audi e-tron, Lexus UX 300e, Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes-Benz EQB.
Mahindra XUV.e8
The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be the automaker’s second electric offering. Based on the INGLO modular platform, the XUV e8 could be launched with a price tag of Rs 35 lakh by December 2024. With a WLTP-claimed range of up to 450 km, the XUV.e8 will come with 2 battery pack options: 60 kWh and 80 kWh. The electric XUV will directly compete against the BYD Atto 3.
