Ethanol As Fuel: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday launched Toyota’s ethanol-powered car. Unveiling the car, the Minister said that biofuel can do wonders and save money spent on importing petroleum.
Ethanol is a kind of alcohol
Ethanol is a type of alcohol, which can be used as fuel after being mixed with petrol. Usually, the Sugarcane crop produces Ethanol. In November last year, the government introduced many varieties of ethanol and revealed its prices.

According to the central government, the price of ethanol from C heavy molasses route is Rs 49.41/litre, the price of ethanol from B heavy molasses route is Rs 60.73 per litre and the price of ethanol from the sugarcane juice syrup route is Rs 65.61 per litre. Ethanol contains 35 percent oxygen.
Carbon monoxide emissions can be reduced by using ethanol as fuel. It is said that it can reduce carbon emissions by 35 per cent. Ethanol helps in reducing the emission of hydrocarbons.
Can generates employment
The ethanol production capacity in India is 1244 crore litres. If the demand for ethanol rises, it will generate employment opportunities too. The use of ethanol will reduce the expenditure on petrol. The vehicles running on this will be environment friendly. Ethanol is currently used in America, and Brazil as fuel.
