The strategic partnership between Bajaj and Triumph has led to the creation of a new 400 cc portfolio, which includes the Speed 400, Speed T4, Scrambler 400X, and Thruxton 400. The bikes act as an entry into Triumph’s rich motorcycling legacy.
Since the new GST reforms have placed all of these bikes under the 40% tax slab, all of the motorcycles have become more expensive. Amid the new changes, Bajaj has recently stated that much of its portfolio will be realigned to sit below the 350cc displacement mark. This will be done to steer clear of the higher prices stipulated by the new GST reforms.
It is possible that Bajaj might be planning to launch an all-new lineup of 350cc bikes. The new portfolio might launch within the year, and all the current 400cc bikes will be ported over. Here is a closer look at the new variants that might be ported over to the new 350cc bikes.
New Bajaj Triumph 350cc Bikes
Bajaj has KTM and Triumph under its ambit, and Triumph will be the most affected by the higher 40% GST slab. That is because Bajaj and KTM also have lower-displacement bikes. This might be a catalyst for Bajaj and Triumph to devise a new 350cc portfolio and then replace the 400cc with this new engine in India.
As per media reports, Triumph might keep manufacturing the high-displacement models for exports, while the 350cc portfolio will be retained for India.
The Bajaj Triumph 350cc engine is likely to be based on the same 399cc block that does duty in the Speed 400 and other bikes. The company might move forward to employ a shorter stroke to bring the total displacement down to around 350cc to reduce the bore. Bajaj is already known for changing the mechanical hardware to carve out different versions, as we saw with the Speed T4.
