Triumph has been planning to expand its 400 cc line up after its tie up with Bajaj. The new Thruxton 400 that the brand has been working on was recently seen being tested in India.

But before the Indian Testing Phase, the bike had already been tested in the southern parts of Europe where Enthusiasts were able to grab a few snapshots of the bike. The snapshots were shared by Motorcycle News.com. Based on the looks the bike would have a authentic round headlamp cladded in a café racer style fairing that extends till the tank.

Thruxton 400 New Looks

While the bike was in the usual camouflage, but the logo etched at the transmission hub gave the vehicle away. The bike would be based on the speed 400 and would be powered by the same engine. Triumph has been planning to grab a grasp in the international markets as well with their new Thruxton 400. The new bike would have 39.5 bhp of power if powered by the same engine as that of the Triumph Speed.

The bike had upside down forks, which would probably have the same 140 mm travel that was also witnessed with the Triumph speed 400. The bike had the same 17 inch rims similar to the speed as well.

The partial analogue partial digital instrument cluster looks like it was taken from the speed as well. The bike had certain design cues from the departing 1200 cafe racer that the brand is about to stop producing soon as well. Since the bike was seen in Europe it had a blank space for the number plate. The bike would have a single front disc and caliper module complete with ABS. The findings confirm that Triumph might launch the vehicle soon.

Engine And Specs

The bike would be powered by the same engine that powers the Speed 400. A 399 cc single-cylinder motor. This engine produces 39.5 bhp of power and a peak torque of 37.5 NM. The bike would be linked to a 6 speed gearbox as well. Beyond these the bike would expectedly have all the rider aids such as a ABS, USB charging port as well as a traction control module. The bike has USD forks up front as well. The bike would be placed between the Speed 400 as well as the Scrambler 400.

Triumph Thruxton History

Originally The Thruxton moniker was a name given to a hand built bike in the 1960’s , after that since Triumph came into production it became a model name for one of their bikes. The Name originated after the Thruxton Circuit , a racetrack in the new Hampshire area of England. It was at this circuit that Triumph bikes won top three places in the Thruxton 500 mile endurance race. Such a win became prestigious to the brand’s engineering and hence the newer rendition of the bike that was based on the track model that was raced was named the Triumph Thruxton. Along the years Triumph has launched various models and renditions of the bike such as a Thruxton Bonneville, Thruxton 900, and Thruxton 1200 as well.

While Triumph has been recently introduced in India, it has a long history of being the go to bike for Cafe racers and other enthusiast groups in London.

Royal Enfield 350cc Or A Triumph

Its a obvious question that every new rider would bother to ask, since both the brands have similar ethos. If we compare the offerings based on prices the Triumph speed is priced at around Rs 2.62 lakhs ex showroom. For the same kind of price a buyer can choose to have a Royal Enfield Meteor 350,Classic 350or a Hunter. The Triumph churns out 39.5 bhp and a peak torque of 37.5 nm @6000 rpm. While the 350 cc mill of royal Enfield that powers a host of vehicles churns out a 20.1 ps of power and a max torque of around 27nm. If you need a cruiser the new Royal Enfield’s Would easily suffice, but if you want a proper cafe racer you would have to wait for the new Thruxton or go for the continental Gt.
