Triumph Thruxton 400 VS Royal Enfield Continental GT: Which Café Racer Should You Take Home?

The new Triumph Thruxton 400, though less powerful than the pricier Royal Enfield Continental GT, offers a lighter chassis and easier rideability, making it a more practical and favorable choice for riders.

Indian riders have welcomed neo-retro cruisers with open arms. Over the years, manufacturers have recognised this trend and launched a wide variety of models for the Indian diaspora. One of the most recent inductees to the lineup of neo-retro styled cruisers is the Triumph Thruxton 400.

The bike carries an iconic cafe racer silhouette and is powered by a 398cc TR-Series engine that produces 42 PS of power and 37.5 Nm of peak torque. Clip-on handlebars further add to the aggressive riding triangle for the rider. Based on the Triumph Speed 400 platform, the bike features a beautifully engineered cowl that sets it apart from the rest of the Triumph lineup. Ride-by-wire and traction control further make the bike an ultimate performance machine.

In India, the Thruxton 400 will compete directly with the Royal Enfield Continental GT, which until now has been the go-to choice for riders seeking a café racer-style machine.

Here’s how the Triumph Thruxton 400 compares to the Royal Enfield Continental GT.

Underneath the fancy cafe racer cowl the Thruxton is a modified version of the Speed 400; it carries the look of a café racer; its riding triangle is far more relaxed compared to earlier Thruxton models that were available in the United Kingdom.

The Royal Enfield Continental GT, though slightly more expensive, is the more capable machine on paper thanks to its parallel-twin engine. However, its heavier weight makes it less agile and somewhat tiring to handle. The Triumph, on the other hand, with its single-cylinder engine and lightweight chassis, will be easier to ride in the city and increase the maneuverability of the bike. Heer’s how the bike compares to the other 400 cc competitors,
