One of the major highlights of the upcoming 2025 Japan Mobility show has been showcased already in the run up to the show, Toyota has finally unveiled its much anticipated Baby Land Cruiser model and has revived the Fj cruiser moniker for it.
Around two years ago, Toyota had revealed that they would soon be expanding the Land Cruiser name and its legacy to incorporate more models and appeal to a wider range of audience. It was at this stage that Toyota hinted at a “Baby Land Cruiser” in development, which has now been revealed as the next FJ Cruiser, in its production-spec or near production-spec guise.
With the return of the FJ Cruiser name, the company is reviving its iconic nameplate, which was discontinued a couple of years ago after a production run of 17 long years.
Design
The design is an evolution of the Compact Cruiser EV concept and features a rugged and upright silhouette. As we’ve seen earlier with the Land Cruiser 250, the 2026 FJ Cruiser will feature two front fascias depending on the trim level—one with round headlights and the other with rectangular ones.
It has chunky proportions, flared wheel arches with ample cladding, and an externally mounted rear spare wheel. Optional accessories include cargo panels and snorkels, allowing for enhanced customization and off-road functionality.
Specs and Features
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is built on the same platform as the Land Cruiser 250, but with a 270 mm shorter wheelbase.
Interior highlights include:
- A functional dashboard with multiple layers
- A 12.5-inch free-standing infotainment screen
- Physical buttons for the dual-zone climate control
- A suite of modern features designed to improve both comfort and off-road capability
Engine and Performance
The FJ Cruiser will be powered by a 2.7-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine, producing 161 bhp of peak power and around 245 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and features a 4×4 transfer case for off-road capabilities.
The vehicle is expected to launch in mid-2026 in Japan, with other markets likely to follow shortly after.
