While the restriction from FIA have limited the constructors ability to bring in new changes that would give them unprecedented advantage. But a few changes have been instrumental in giving teams a possible performance boost over the last few season here is a recap of them
F1 Mclaren Mini DRS Effect
Mclaren had to face scrutiny after the changes they made to their car became very evident at the Azerbaijan Gp. As fans would remember that Oscar pisatri was leading the race ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Lecrec by a small margin. Pisatri could not use the DRS as there was no car ahead. But still piastri was able to drive down the track with long straight at the Baku city circuit with great vigour. While the edges of his rear wings upper flaps were flexing and lifting. This flexing allegedly created some space through which air could pass and reduce the drag. FIA settled the issue by stating that it did not give the competitor any kind of competitive edge.
Redbull’s similar Flexi Wing In 2021
As per the reports of 2021 the Redbull car also had a flexing wing that as per Mercedes gave them advantage. They protested the change and pledged FIA to be more stringent with its load testing of the wings.
F1 Mercedes Flexing Front Wing
Beyond the changes that were suggested by Mercedes, they were themselves implicated of using a loop hole when in 2024 Canadian Gp . Both Mercedes and ,Mclaren were said to have used the flexing wings to manage air flow better along the front body of the vehicle. FIA intervened and proved that Mercedes as well as McLaren had passed the load test. With such changes being passed other teams also jumped to bring in similar changes to their cars.
Difference In Braking Torques
FIA also had to intervene to ensure that the braking torques on cars on both the axels were similar. This outlawed the asymmetric brake bias system. While Redbull denied the use of any such equipment’s, but they were found guilty of using Ride height adjustment device on their car for maximum performance output. Redbull interfered with the rake angle of their suspension geometry to avoid plank wear.
