Tesla: Tesla is gearing up for a significant step in its plans for India as its representatives are scheduled to meet India’s commerce minister, Piyush Goyal, this month.
The focus of the discussion will be on the company’s ambitious plan to build a factory in India for the production of a brand-new electric vehicle (EV) priced at $24,000.
This proposed plant would cater to the domestic market’s demand for affordable EVs and also serve as an export hub.
“The $24,000 EV, as described by Tesla representatives during the discussions about the potential Indian plant, is expected to be 25% cheaper than the company’s current lowest-priced offering, the Model 3 sedan. In China, the Model 3 is priced at just over $32,200,” told Reuters.

An important meeting between Tesla and India’s commerce minister signifies the most significant level of discussion between the company and the Indian government since Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June. During that meeting, Musk expressed his strong commitment to making a substantial investment in India.
Earlier this year, in May, Tesla executives visited India and held constructive talks with government officials about establishing a manufacturing base for both cars and batteries in the country.
As discussions continue, the focus will be on creating a strong electric vehicle (EV) supply chain and finalizing the allocation of suitable land for the factory’s location.
Tesla’s interest in building a factory in India aligns with the country’s push towards electric mobility and green initiatives.
The Indian government has been actively promoting EV adoption and manufacturing to reduce emissions and combat climate change.
A local Tesla factory would not only boost the EV market in India but also generate employment and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
All eyes are on the outcome of the meeting with the commerce minister and the potential developments in Tesla’s journey to establish a strong presence in the Indian market.
