Tata has had a many legendary vehicles in their past, the Safari, Sumo as well as the Sierra. The brand has been in a pursuit to reinvent their older vehicles with new looks and probable EV powertrains. While there have been possibilities of a Sierra EV, but as per the rumour mill the brand might reinvent the Sumo moniker instead.

As per several news reports specially one by Telangana Today and a few others the Brand might relaunch a new Tata Sumo soon. While the Sierra could possibly have been the next launch after Harrier EV since it was also showcased at the previous Auto expo and was also included at the official Tata Website, it now seems that the brand might have different plans.

The Original Sierra

The Original Tata Sierra was powered by a 2.0 liter 483 Diesel engine developed by Tata motors themselves in India. The engine had indirect injection and two valves per cylinder. The vehicle had a power out put of only 63 bhp, with a manual transmission. later on a turbo model was also added to the line up. This engine then powered couple of new vehicles that Tata brought such as the Tata Sumo, Safari and the Winger Van.

The Original Sumo

Tata Sumo along its various iterations had several engines such as the 1.9 liter Peugeot XD88 I4 diesel. A 3.0 liter 4Sp diesel engine and the 3.0L Dicor CR4I4 Diesel. The last variant that was the Sumo Grande was powered by a 2.2 Dicor engine that had common rail diesel injection and produced around 120 BHP. The vehicle was the last sold model of the sumo and beyond that the moniker was discontinued to bring new new vehicles.

Tata Sierra Expected Specs

The Sierra might become the flagship EV vehicle for Tata, hence its possible that it might be priced higher than any of the vehicles currently on sale. As per expectation the vehicle would have around 420 km of range and would be powered by a 69 kwh battery pack. Tata has not revealed the official specs of the vehicle yet. The price of the vehicle would be around Rs 25-30 lakh. Tata wans to reinvent the SUV with this new vehicle hence they plan to bring in elements that have not been seen on any other vehicle till now. Such as a lounge like cabin, with clamshell tailgate that would provide the users with a unparalleled access to the vehicle.

Its possible that Tata might be planning to just launch the new sierra, and before that the Harrier EV . The brand has not revealed any details about the sumo launch. But it seems to be planning to revamp their line up with new facelifts and EV, conversions.
