New Delhi: Tata Motors, the renowned Indian automaker, is revving up its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, and the eagerly awaited Tata Punch EV is set to electrify the market in October. With the upcoming launch of this compact SUV, Tata Motors aims to deliver a stellar addition to its all-electric fleet, joining the ranks of Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV. The Punch EV promises to be a versatile offering, as it will be available in internal combustion engine (ICE), compressed natural gas (CNG), and electric variants.
Spy shots reveal clues
In anticipation of its official debut, the Tata Punch EV has been spied testing on Indian roads multiple times. These spy shots, showcasing the Punch EV in camouflage, provide intriguing insights into the upcoming EV’s features and design.
Front-mounted charging port
Recent spy shots suggest a significant departure from Tata’s previous EVs. The Punch EV may introduce a groundbreaking change as it could feature a front-mounted charging port. This would be a distinct shift from the traditional rear-mounted charging points seen in other Tata EVs.
Battery expectations
Tata Motors is expected to equip the Punch EV with either a 24 kWh or a 26 kWh battery pack, similar to those used in their Tiago EV and Tiger EV models. The smaller battery, found in the Tiago EV, offers an impressive range of up to 250 kilometers on a single charge. Meanwhile, the larger battery in the Tiger EV extends the range to approximately 315 kilometers. The Punch EV is likely to offer a competitive range, estimated to hover around the 300-kilometer mark. Additionally, fast-charging capability is anticipated, ensuring convenience for EV owners.
Gen2 EV platform
The Tata Punch EV is set to be built upon the automaker’s Gen2 EV platform, derived from the Alpha architecture. It’s expected to feature a high-performing permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMS) that incorporates liquid cooling for enhanced efficiency.
As the Tata Punch EV gears up for its grand entrance into the EV market, enthusiasts and potential buyers can eagerly anticipate a blend of innovative design, versatile charging options, and a range that aligns with modern EV standards. Stay tuned for the official unveiling of this exciting addition to Tata Motors’ electric fleet.
