In a recent video that has been uploaded over at Instagram an auto enthusiast by the official handle of @carguide01 has seemingly spotted a new Tata Harrier being emission tested. The car was being tested along with a emissions test kit hence the enthusiast recording the car thought that the car might be testing with a new petrol engine.
The Harrier does not come with a petrol engine hence its possible that Tata might be planning to provide the vehicle with a petrol engine to help it gain a expansive grasp in the Indian market. The diesel has been relegated to a life of only 10 years, such norms have led the diesel variant sales to shrink. To ensure that Tata has a formidable variant for the petrol buyers the car might be testing with a new petrol engine.
A New Tata 1.5 Or A 1.2 liter petrol
Would the car have a 1.5 liter petrol or a 1.2 liter petrol engine is still a question that Tata has not officially answered. Even the enthusiast in the video seemed confused about what engine option Tata might provide with the Harrier. Since the Tata Curvv is delivered with a 1.2petrol engine, its possible that the new harrier might be launched with the same engine as well. But the Harrier is a big vehicle and a1.2 might be bit to small for the car, hence its possible that the car might be launched with a new1.5 litre 4 cylinder engine that would allow it to have proper performance specs against competitors.
The Need For A New Engine for Tata
Tata does need a new engine as they have profound plans to increase their vehicle line up in the future. Its also possible that Tata might launch a new ICE version of the Sierra which can also be shoehorned with a new 1.5 liter four cylinder engine. But before that Tata has pledged to launch a EV version of the Curvv to serve the customers who seek a premium EV SUV in India.
Possible Emission Testing
Its also possible that Tata might not be testing a new engine at all, a manufacturer keeps on making new changes and tweaks to their engines. Once such changes are implemented the manufacturer has to test what kind of emission differences the engine is projecting. Its possible that Tata might be planning a new tune for the diesel engine and hence were testing the vehicle for emission changes. With electronic fuel management and valve lift control a manufacturer can provide the engine with a great deal of changes based on fuel mapping and valve lift timing.
Whatever the reason might be, if Tata were to launch a new vehicle they would soon elucidate about the changes.
New launches Slated For The Bharat Mobility Expo
Tata has a few aces up their sleeve at the moment and would soon launch their new Harrier EV as well as the sierra EV at the Bharat mobility Expo. As of yet we know that the Harrier EV would have a dual motor setup along with a battery pack of around 75 KWH with a range of around 500 km. If you have been seeking to buy a new SUV EV , we would advise you to wait until the new Harrier EV as well as Creta Electric go on sale.
