Tata Harrier EV recently went under a comprehensive crash test, conducted by Bharat NCAP. The vehicle was able to score a perfect 5 star safety rating for adult occupants and Child Occupants. Going by the full detailed version of the crash test report, the Harrier EV offers formidable protection to all the body areas in case of a frontal crash. The protection rating was scored as good with a perfect score of 16/16.
The car was able to offer similar robust safety in case of a frontal movable deformable barrier test and side pole impact test. The new Harrier EV has been able to score a perfect score of 16/16 in the front deformable Barrier Test and the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. The protection to the passenger body in both types of crashes was rated as Good. Overall, the vehicle was able to score an Adult occupant protection score of 32/32 and Child Protection score of around 45/49 earning 5 stars in both categories.
Child Occupant Protection
In the child occupant safety department, the car was able to score a Dynamic score of 24.00 out of a max 24, CRS installation Score of 12.00 and a vehicle assessment score of 9 out of a max score of 13. The variant that was tested had Frontal Airbags, Belt Pretensioners, and Belt Load Limiters. Beyond that, the vehicles under test were also equipped with side head curtain air bags, and side chest airbags, with ESC, integrated CRS and an air bag cut off switch as standard.
In the offset deformable frontal barrier test the vehicle was poised and balanced when it went against the barrier. The chassis was able to withhold the integrity of the vehicle while absorbing the impact of the collision. The A pillars that are of integral importance in case of an accident did not deform, rather showcased profound structural integrity. All the air bags in the vehicle deployed at the right time to ensure that the passengers did not face any issues.
Side Impact Test – Importance For Ev’s
Side impact tests are often of very high importance for EVs as the battery packs are placed beneath the chassis. In case of side impacts the battery casings can get damaged and users can often witness thermal run away causing major issues. But the impact test showcased that the Harrier EV was able to withstand the test with ease, the battery was safe and secure and did not witness any damage. The air bags deployed at the right time as necessary in the event of a crash. The vehicle was able to showcase a similar prowess in the pole side impact test as well. The curtain air bags and other safety features worked as intended.
The safety ratings are ascertained when the seatbelts are drawn and the children are seated properly in a baby carrier. We would recommend that adults as well as kids always wear seatbelts while being in a vehicle.
