New Delhi: In India, a lot of cars are sold in the mid-size SUV segment. The dominance of the Hyundai Creta in this segment has been intact for a long time. The second best selling car in this segment is the Kia Seltos. There is no other strong option in the rest of the mid-size SUV segment. But soon Tata Motors is also going to step into it. Currently Tata has Nexon and Harrier in sub 4 meter and 4.6 meter respectively. But the upcoming new SUV will be between these two. That is, Creta and Seltos are going to get tough competition from Tata’s car soon.
What will be the name?
According to media reports, the upcoming new SUV will be based on the existing Nexon, but its length will be about 4.3 meters longer than the Nexon. The company may name this new vehicle as Blackbird. But this name is not final yet and change is possible in it.
What will be the specialty?
The upcoming Blackbird SUV can be built on the X1 platform of the company’s best-selling car Nexon. But its size will be bigger and due to this it will get to see more space and more boot space. Its design can be new and its front and back looks are likely to be found in different designs.
How will the engine be?
A new 1.5-litre petrol engine can be used in this car. Which will be bigger and more powerful than the 1.2-litre Revotron engine found in the Nexon. This engine will produce 160 hp power. Also, the option of manual and automatic transmission can be found in it. The initial ex-showroom price of this car is likely to be around Rs. 11 lakh.
Will compete with Creta
The upcoming Blackbird will compete with the Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. This car is available in three engine options. Which includes 1.5-litre MPI petrol engine, 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine and 1.4-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol, which generate outputs of 113bhp and 143.8Nm, 113bhp and 250Nm and 138bhp respectively. This car is available in both manual and automatic transmission options.
