New Delhi: One electric scooter will be officially launched on May 23rd, announced Simple Energy. The company had earlier displayed the scooter and shared the price, but after that there was radio silence about the start of deliveries.
At the same time, a number of cases of electric scooters catching fire (due to heat leaks) have surfaced online, prompting the government to crack down on manufacturers and sellers of Chinese rebadged electric scooters. Subsequently, Appendix 3 of the Automotive Industry Standards (AIS) was introduced to ensure better battery safety.
At the time, Simple Energy said it would push the One electric scooter to market to meet the new standards. The company claims that the Simple One is currently the only electric scooter that meets the new standards.
Electric scooter Simple One: Details
We got a chance to sample the One electric scooter in July 2022 and were quite impressed with what the Bengaluru-based start-up came up with. Its sharp design, performance and handling were some of its strengths.
The scooter we rode had an 8.5 kW engine that produced 72 Nm. The 4.8 kWh lithium-ion battery capacity translates into a claimed range of 236 km, which is more than any other scooter sold in India. All told, we did notice some quality issues that we hope have been addressed in the build of the scooter.
